Shaping Davos Manila Hub Hackathon on Jan 15-16

As our share in #ShapingDavos, the Manila Hub of Global Shapers together with Red Wizard Events & PR Strategists is organizing a two-day hackathon from January 15-16 at Globe Valero Telepark.  The Hackathon aims to address the challenges in creating a more transparent and accountable Sangguniang Kabataan (SK).

The goal of the hackathon is to generate solutions in the form of web/mobile apps for the following challenges in the SK:

(a) Improve awareness of SK roles in the community.
(b) Engage the community and the youth SK activities.
(c) Improve transparency and accountability in the SK.

There will also be an Interactive Panels in the morning of the 15th with key personalities from the government, development sector, and the media. The hackathon will give its participants the opportunity to compete in creating game-changing apps for a better SK.

The Philippines is one of the few countries in the world with youth representation institutionalized in its local government. For the first time, we are cultivating innovative ideas and technology to promote good governance in the SK.

Winners of the hackathon have the chance to have their ideas implemented and make the SK live up to its potential. There will also be exciting prizes awaits for the winning group.  For the longest time, the SK has been abused by more senior public officials in misusing public funds.

Furthermore, #MNLShapingDavos is an unprecedented and unique opportunity to feature local solutions to global issues, and it is a unique global conversation. Manila is one of only 40 cities in the world that will get to be a part of this. The Manila Hub, through its representative, will share the winning ideas via satellite with a session at World Economic Forum Annual Meeting in Davos Switzerland, which will convene global leaders from across business, government, international organizations, academia and civil society for strategic dialogues on reshaping the world.
