Sports personalities and enthusiasts rang in the new year with the recent 2015 Sportsman of the Year awarding ceremony at Marriott Hotel. Organized by Spin.ph, the country’s 1st standalone sports website, Sportsman of the Year is an award-giving body that honors Filipino athletes who have shown exemplary performance in the field of sports.
Now in its 3rd year, the renowned event was presented by no less than PLDT HOME ULTera, the Ultra-Fast LTE for a Happy Connected Family. “Sportsman of the Year celebrates sports excellence in the country, which is exactly what PLDT HOME Ultera’s advocacy is about,” PLDT VP and HOME Marketing Director Gary Dujali said. “We want to inspire the youth to develop their talents and passion and to create a strong impact in the Philippine sports scene, just like their heroes.”
The award comprised the Top 10 Sports Heroes who stood out in their respective sports, as selected by SPIN.ph’s team of editors, reporters and columnists. On top of this, the Sportsman of the Year title was awarded to none other than Calvin Abueva of Alaska Aces, making him the third titleholder following Jimmy Alapag in 2014 and Coach Chot Reyes in 2013.
Graced by awardees, sports personalities, sports press, advertisers and partners, the 2015 Sportsman of the Year awarding ceremony is among the projects highly supported by PLDT HOME Ultera as part of its sports advocacy. In line with its ongoing mission to promote volleyball to young athletes at the grassroots level, PLDT HOME Ultera is also presenting the upcoming UAAP Women’s Volleyball Season 78 this January.
